A lot of our clients and prospective clients have been asking us the question: “How do you advertise on Snapchat?”
While we are more than happy to help you launch a successful Snapchat campaign, we know that not everybody has the resources to work with an agency. Since we want to encourage people to do phenomenal work at all levels of business, we thought that it was time to finally publish an informative post to help answer the question: “How do you advertise on Snapchat?”
Why would you want to advertise on Snapchat?
One of the biggest reasons you should consider advertising on Snapchat is the sheer volume of people, in a valuable demographic, that Snapchat reaches.
On any given day, 41% of all 18 to 34 year-olds in the United States use Snapchat. (A pretty staggering number!)
More than 100 million people are using Snapchat daily to send experiences to friends and family, or engage with events and brands around the globe. These users watch over 10 billion videos per day, making Snapchat a great storytelling platform.
Because Snapchat has proven to be such a great storytelling platform, it’s no wonder that you’re curious about using it to unlock a new marketing opportunity.
What are the ways to advertise on Snapchat?
There are now multiple ways that you can advertise on Snapchat. The ways that you can advertise on Snapchat are:
- Snap Ads
- Sponsored Geofilters
- Sponsored Lenses
The three ways that you can advertise all offer their own unique opportunities to engage with your audience and grow your brand.
However, no matter which advertising avenue you pick on Snapchat, you’ll likely discover some great results.
Emmanuel Seuge, the SVP of Content at Coca-Cola explains: “Each time we partner with Snapchat on a specific campaign, they come with great insights, great creative solutions, and ultimately great measurable results.”
This seems to be what you get with Snapchat advertising: results.
To generate results, you need to decide which Snapchat advertising option is best for your company or brand. Let’s dig into the three ad choices that we mentioned earlier:
- Snap Ads: This ad choice is likely the best mobile video ad option available. Snap Ads are an up to 10-second vertical video ad that appears in the context of other Snaps. With this ad type, you can give Snapchatters the option to swipe to learn more. Swiping up on Snap Ads will bring viewers to a longer video, article, app install, or mobile website. Snapchat also claims that the click-through rate on Snap Ads are 5x higher than on comparable platforms.
- Sponsored Geofilters: Sponsored Geofilters are effectively tiny pieces of art that make a big impression. These work based on location- you pick a place where you want your geofilter to be displayed, and then Snapchatters in that location will see your geofilter if they scroll through the filters after taking a Snap in that location. This ad choice is a great option if you want to target a location where your target audience hangs out. If you have a large budget and are able to purchase a single National Sponsored Geofilter, your ad will reach anywhere from 40% to 60% of all Snapchatters in the United States.
- Sponsored Lenses: Sponsored Lenses are a completely new way for brands to activate consumers. They leave a lasting impression in a very playful way. For consumers to activate lenses, they need to point their camera at a face and briefly press on their face. Once a person presses their face, it will start triggering an animation. It’s a truly unique way to get consumers engaging with your brand in a memorable way.
What’s an example of a brand that has found success by deciding to advertise on Snapchat?
Gatorade is a brand that has found immense success using Snapchat to activate consumers. For the 2016 Super Bowl, Gatorade partnered with Snapchat to create a Sponsored National Lens that let everybody celebrate a win. The ad triggered a very high emotional connection to consumers, making the strong Gatorade brand even stronger. The Gatorade brand grew even stronger because the Sponsored Lens was a massive success, climbing to over 165 million views on Snapchat, with screenshots of Snaps being shared on every other social platform.
How do you advertise on Snapchat?
Advertising on Snapchat is still a relatively new thing, which means the purchasing process is not yet completely streamlined (and somewhat exclusive/mysterious)
The best route for advertising is to contact an agency (like us) and come up with a strategy. Once you’ve created your strategy with your agency, you’ll work with them to determine what your audience should see. You’ll create memorable creative assets that will make your brand grow.
If you are a smaller brand, your only real option to advertise on Snapchat is with a Sponsored Geofilter. At this time, they are pretty cost effective and a great way to drive people to your business. For example, if you’re Intellgentisa Coffee on Abbott Kinney in Venice, California and see that a heatwave is coming, you might create a Sponsored Geofilter up and down Abbott Kinney Boulevard that makes people want to stroll down to you to get an iced coffee or iced tea.
